The IPL has witnessed sheer Caribbean power with the bats of Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell. Russell, known for his explosive hitting, lived up to his reputation at Eden Gardens against Rajasthan Royals, launching a hat-trick of sixes off Maheesh Theekshana in a stunning display.

‌Kolkata Knight Riders took on Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens with hopes of securing a playoff spot and chose to bat first after winning the toss. They had a shaky start as Sunil Narine was dismissed early but Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ajinkya Rahane steadied the innings, taking the score to 56/1 by the end of the powerplay. Gurbaz made 35 before falling in the eighth over while Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi added 42 runs to push the total to 107/2. After Rahane’s dismissal in the 13th over, Andre Russell launched a powerful counterattack, scoring 27 off 17 balls, including a hat-trick of sixes off Maheesh Theekshana to take KKR to 172/3 in 18 overs.

On the fourth ball of the 18th over, Maheesh Theekshana delivered a length ball outside off stump—plenty of width on offer. Andre Russell didn’t hold back. He reached out and unleashed a powerful swing, striking it right from the middle of the bat. The ball sailed over the sightscreen in the straight long-off region for a monstrous 94-metre six. On the very next delivery, Theekshana went full and wide outside off again. Russell got under it, bending his back knee and swinging across the line. This one flew over deep mid-wicket for another maximum—91 metres this time. With two sixes already under his belt, Russell had a chance for a hat-trick. Theekshana offered another fuller ball outside off, and Russell didn’t miss. He freed his arms and launched it over deep extra cover, completing a hat-trick of sixes in sensational style. The Twitterverse erupted in excitement as Russell finally roared to life, with fans pouring in their admiration for the West Indian powerhouse.
