ENG vs IND | Twitter excited as Sundar cleans up Root to trigger wild celebrations

Joe Root has been England’s best batter in the current Test squad, and getting his wicket would be a thrilling prospect for any bowler. Indian spinner Washington Sundar was over the moon as he castled the veteran batter in the third Test at Lord’s, turning the tide in the visitors’ favour.

‌England recovered after a shaky start against India in the first session of day four at Lord’s with Joe Root and Ben Stokes rebuilding the side. With the scores level after the first innings of both sides, England were reduced to 87/4 in their second before the captain and Stokes and former captain Root put on 67 runs for the sixth wicket.

Just when it looked like the duo would carry the hosts to a daunting total, skipper Shubman Gill introduced Washington Sundar in the 39th over. The off-spinner soon repaid his captain’s faith, striking for India at a crucial juncture, in just his third over.

Bowling from over the wicket, the Tamil Nadu spinner released one on a length around middle and leg stump in the fourth ball of the over. Root tried to take on the bowler with a sweep shot, but to his horror, the ball went below his gloves and crashed onto the leg stump.

The spinner broke a vital partnership just as England were looking to bat India out of the game, pumping his fist in jubilation as the teammates joined in.

Twitter was ecstatic as the young spinner brought India right back into the match.
