‌WATCH, BBL | Ellis draws first blood by outsmarting on-song Warner and Gilkes

It is important for a captain to lead his troops from the front. Hobart Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis did just the same as he induced back-to-back scalps by getting the better of set David Warner and wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Gilkes to halt the Sydney Thunder’s momentum in the BBL final.

Winning the toss and choosing to field first in the grand finale, Ellis and co. felt the backlash from the opposition openers. Jason Sangha and Warner offered a great start to the Men in Lime Green as the right and left-hand combo converted their start to almost a century stand if not for Ellis’ pleasant bowling after the Drinks Break.

The score read 97/0 midway through the first innings when Ellis brought him into the attack. After a dot, he dished a length delivery outside the stumps angling across the left-hander. Warner tried to cut it late but incurred an outside edge en route to the wicketkeeper to get dismissed. On the next ball, new batter Gilkes was chopped on while trying to push a slower delivery on a length. He incurred an inside edge back to the stumps and the Hurricanes skipper was seen elated.
