PAK vs NZ | Twitter in disbelief as feline-like Phillips plucks yet another diving stunner at point

One blinder is a fluke, two is a co-incidence, three is a pattern, and any more is utterly and uniquely Glenn Phillips. The New Zealander keeps defying standards in the field, and Pakistan in Karachi on Wednesday was no different as he dispatched Mohammad Rizwan in unbelievable fashion.

Pakistan's Champions Trophy campaign got off to a faltering start against New Zealand as some death overs blietzkrieg from Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips allowed the visitors to post a daunting first innings total of 320. The signs were ominous early on when Fakhar Zaman injured his hamstring in the first over itself while chasing after a ball headed for the boundary, culminating in Saud Shakeel having to open alongside Babar Azam. The opening duo had to stay put for 20 minutes before Fakhar could be allowed back onto the field but the former threw away his wicket early on to force Mohammad Rizwan to come in at three. The skipper was all smiles when he greeted Babar at the other end, the duo having formed a very successful opening partnership in T20Is, and the duo looked on course to build a trademark frustrating stand when a spark of Glenn Phillips' genius cut them short.

The Kiwis had allowed just 27 runs in the powerplay, something Rizwan aimed to change on the last ball when Will O'Rourke gifted him a short and wide delivery. The wicket-keeper batter slashed at the Kookaburra with all his mgiht and the white rock seemed destined for the ropes, only for a flying Phillips at point to appear in the frame with one knee crouched in the air and the right hand extended for maximum hang time. As seems to always be the case, the ball stuck like glue to the veteran's palm, and even the disbelief that followed seemed to have an air of familiarity about it due to the freakish occurrence at which the Black Cap pulls off such feat.

Twitterati, yet again, was all praises for the flying Kiwi.

Pressure gets to the best of us -- just ask MS Dhoni about the no-ball against Delhi or Rahul Dravid about using caps as frisbees. Mohammad Rizwan joined that infamous list in the Champions Trophy opener after his calm exterior melted in the Karachi heat, much to Shaheen Afridi's chagrin.
