WPL | Twitter reacts to Smriti’s whimsical response on best friend Jemimah’s first six of tournament

When best friends turn into opponents in a sporting event, it can be a box office for the spectators. Such was the case in the fourth match of the ensuing Women’s Premier League between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals after Jemimah Rodrigues hit a six in the powerplay.

Following the trend to field first at the Kotambi Stadium, Renuka Singh Thakur backed captain Smriti’s decision by getting the better of Shafali Verma in the first over itself. With an early wicket down, Jemimah Rodrigues and Meg Lanning tried to negate the new ball threat on a two-paced wicket. Just when the run rate seemed to go down at the cue end of the powerplay, Rodrigues switched gears leaving her best friend in the opposition side whimsical.

Following a wide and a four off the second ball of the sixth over, Rodrigues rocked back and pulled a back of a length ball outside the stumps over the deep square leg region for a six. She came into a good position behind the line of the ball to sail the white rock over the boundary ropes. Seeing her best friend turn switch into an aggressor, Smriti was left with a quirky expression with the tongue out and a sideways nod, sparking the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
