Former Australian veteran Ricky Ponting is almost done signing a contract with the Punjab Kings. The Australian superstar, who left the Delhi Capitals after seven years as head coach, had previously made comments about joining other teams and was looking for coaching opportunities.

‌According to a Cricbuzz report, Ricky Ponting is getting closer to agreeing to a contract with the Punjab Kings. Although Ponting has reportedly been in talks with the Punjab Kings team and may have been close to reaching a deal, the report claims that there has been no official confirmation from their end of the party.

Ricky Ponting was appointed head coach ahead of the 2018 season when the franchise was still called Delhi Daredevils. The team finished the season with a wooden spoon in the first year of Ponting's reign, but continued to reach the playoffs in the next three seasons, including reaching the final in 2020, where they lost to Mumbai Indians, and topped the league in 2021. But since then, the team has faltered again, finishing fifth, ninth and sixth in the following seasons, respectively, which has the Capitals looking in other directions ahead of the mega 2025 auction.
