Ajay Ratra takes on new role as member of BCCI Mens Selection Committee

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former India wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra as a member of the Men's Selection Committee. Ratra will replace Salil Ankola on the committee, which is led by Ajit Agarkar and includes Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, and Sridharan Sharath.
Each of the five selectors represents a distinct zone, with Ratra assigned to the North Zone under the leadership of Ajit Agarkar. Following Agarkar’s appointment as chief selector last year, the panel previously included two selectors from the West Zone, with Ankola already serving.
This change comes just before the two-Test series against Bangladesh, which starts on September 19. Ratra will start his duties on Thursday with the commencement of the Duleep Trophy.
“Ratra, a former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, brings with him a wealth of experience and an impressive track record in both domestic and international cricket,” BCCI said in a statement.
The 42-year-old has featured in 6 Tests and 12 ODIs for India. In his domestic career with Haryana, he participated in over 90 First-Class games, amassing nearly 4000 runs and recording over 240 dismissals. He also has a rich coaching background, having held the position of Head Coach for Assam, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Ratra has also contributed to the Indian team’s coaching staff during their ODI series in South Africa in 2023.
