IND vs NZ | Twitter reacts to Virat Kohli’s gifted bat leads to Akash Deep’s run out woes

A gift should be cherished and utilized wisely, especially in high-stakes games where runs are crucial. Unfortunately, Akash Deep failed to do this on the second day of the Test match between India and New Zealand when he used Virat Kohli’s gifted bat but was dismissed disappointingly.

‌After Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill steadied the ship with their 96-run partnership, both batters notched half-centuries, putting India in a solid position. However, as they departed, the lower order faltered and struggled to contribute. While Washington Sundar showed promise with 38 off 36 balls, Sarfaraz Khan's duck and Ravichandran Ashwin’s six off 13 only added to the Indian batting woes. The situation worsened when Akash Deep was run out after requesting the substitute fielder to bring in Virat Kohli’s bat, which had been gifted to him by the Indian legend.

As Ashwin walked back to the pavilion, Akash stepped in to bat as the last man. Known for his explosive hitting, he was expected to thrill the packed Wankhede crowd with some big shots to help India secure a substantial lead. Although Sundar was scoring boundaries from the other end, Akash was yet to open his account. During a drinks break, he signaled to the dugout for a bat, and Dhruv Jurel brought in the one gifted to him by Kohli. Unfortunately, this bat proved to be unlucky, as on the fourth ball of the 60th over, Akash was run out casually.

Ajaz Patel came over the wicket, delivering a fuller ball that Sundar dabbed behind square on the off side. As the ball went straight to the deep point fielder, Washington attempted to take a quick double. In an instant, he urged Akash to stop running, but as he turned back, the ball had already reached Kiwi wicketkeeper Tom Blundell, who promptly hit the stumps. As Akash walked off, Washington kept his head down, witnessing India’s innings collapse for just 263 runs. The incident caught the attention of Twitter, where fans shared their emotions about the misfortune.
