Presence of mind is an underrated trait in a cricketing contest and can often help a side gain an advantage. Rajasthan Royals’ Sanju Samson showed his street smartness against Delhi Capitals by denying a run to the opposition and stealing a six off a free hit due to Kuldeep Yadav’s bail botch.

Jake Fraser-McGurk’s quick 50 off 20 balls, coupled with Abishek Porel’s maiden IPL fifty helped Delhi Capitals set up a total of 221 with Tristan Stubbs producing some lusty blows. In reply, the Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler inside the powerplay but Sanju Samson kept the visitors in the hunt for the hefty chase. However, the captain was not just firing with the bat but also with his mind as his smart work helped RR gain a six off a no-ball.

With the score reading 103/3 in eleven overs, Kuldeep Yadav followed up a dot ball with a no-ball by disturbing the bails at the non-striker’s end. Although Samson clipped it towards the right of mid-wicket he denied an easy single by keeping Shubham Dubey, the new batter off-strike. Samson was quick to realize that he would gain a free hit and by not crossing over, he could deny the Capitals a field change for the free hit delivery. Eventually, the wrist spinner aired up the ball near the off stump and Samson lunged forward to pummel the kookaburra over the long on region for a six. Seeing Samson’s shrewd work help RR with an advantageous six, the Twitterverse could not shy away from appreciation.
