IND vs SA | Twitter stunned as de Kock’s bulls eye throw sends in-form Axar packing

A wicketkeeper's role extends beyond merely guarding the stumps; it also involves accurately dispatching well-set batters. Such was the scene in the final of the ICC World T20 between India and South Africa, when Quinton de Kock's precise throw struck down the stumps, dismissing Axar Patel.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India's batting faltered as they swiftly lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav within the powerplay. Nevertheless, Virat Kohli and Axar Patel formed a resilient partnership steering the score to 75/3 in 10 overs. However, fate had other plans for Patel who faced an unfortunate run-out in the 14th over.

The pivotal moment arrived on the fourth ball of the 14th over when Kagiso Rabada delivered a full-length ball to Kohli. Attempting to slap the delivery into the leg side, Kohli missed, allowing the ball to kiss off his thigh pad and roll towards Proteas' keeper Quinton de Kock. Demonstrating his sharp agility, de Kock swiftly collected the ball and executed a precise throw to the non-striker's end. Amidst this, a miscommunication unfolded between Kohli and Axar. Initially calling for a single, Kohli quickly revoked the call, urging Axar to retreat as de Kock was yet to secure the ball. However, Axar's sluggish response proved costly as he turned back towards his crease. Meanwhile, de Kock's throw struck the stumps, leaving Axar well short of safety. Amusingly, after striking the stumps the ball continued its journey to the boundary ropes. De Kock began his celebration immediately and with the third umpire's intervention confirming the dismissal. The giant screen flashed 'Out,' sending Axar back to the pavilion and igniting a frenzy across Twitterverse

Oh lord!
