The googly is a surprise weapon as the ball turns the other way when the batsman least expects it. Such was the scene in the match between England and the USA at Barbados when Adil Rashid showcased his mastery with a mesmerizing googly that completely flummoxed Aaron Jones leading to his dismissal.

‌A packed Barbados eagerly awaited the crucial showdown between the USA and England in Group 2 of the Super Eight. After winning the toss, England capitalised early with the ball claiming the wickets of Andries Gous and Steven Taylor in the powerplay, leaving the score at 48/2. The Americans' fortunes worsened when Adil Rashid struck to dismiss Aaron Jones soon after.

On the fourth ball of the ninth over, Rashid approached Jones from over the wicket and delivered a cunning googly that deceived the USA skipper completely. Initially pitching outside the off stump with a full length, the ball sharply turned back towards the stumps, evading Jones' attempted slog sweep from one knee. His misjudgment saw the ball sneak through to disturb the stumps, leaving him visibly dejected as he walked back to the pavilion. Furthermore, in the 11th over too, Nitish Kumar fell for a Rashid special googly as he was trudged back scoring a crucial 30 off 24 deliveries. Rashid, visibly pleased with both his successful scalps, showcased his mastery of spin bowling, earning accolades from the Twitter community.
