Stating his opinion on a highly hyped news of Sourav Ganguly joining office as the BCCI president, Rashid Latif has compared the ex India captain to leaders of the freedom movement. The former Pakistan cricketer has heavily praised Ganguly and sees him transforming Indian cricket.

After Shoaib Akhtar heaped praises on Ganguly, who according to him was the captain who transformed the Indian cricket team into a fighting unit, another Pakistan cricketer has spoken highly of the former India skipper. Veteran wicketkeeper Rashid Latif has spoken about how Ganguly’s appointment as the head of Indian cricket could affect the entire scene of the sport in the country, including domestic cricket. Ganguly had earlier said in his statement that he will look after the financial health of India’s first-class cricketers as a priority.

“So far what I have read and heard, I think his focus is on further improving domestic cricket...He has also spoken in the past about changes but could not get it done. He also wants to reduce the monetary gap between international cricket and first class cricket, he wants to make India’s first-class structure as good as that of England and Australia and I think he is the right man for the job, about whom no one will have any reservations,” the former Pakistan wicket-keeper said, reported Hindustan Times.

Latif further said that the CAB president, with his experience in administration, is the best in the business amongst other players who have taken a similar step. The Pakistan cricketer went on to compare the Bengal cricketer to the freedom fighters belonging to the same land.

“I look at it a little differently than others. Bengal is a place that has given a lot of leaders, even during the freedom movement before partition. Sourav belongs to the same land. He has been handling the administration of a big organisation like the Cricket Association of Bengal. Among all big players who have entered administration Ganguly perhaps is at the top of the list,”  Latif said while describing Ganguly’s expected election as BCCI chief.
