Skipper Tim Paine, in a cheeky response, told the reporters that he would ask for Virat Kohli’s permission to play the first Test at the Gabba when India tour next time. Australia, who just defeated Pakistan at the said ground, are scheduled to play India in a Test series at home in the next summer.
When it comes to slipping in subtle chirps, the Australian captain Tim Paine has made enough name. After winning the first Test by an innings and five runs against Pakistan, Paine said that the hosts hope to continue with the tradition of playing their first home Test at the Gabba.
When asked if they would like to do the same against India, Paine subtly said that he would love to provided they get Virat Kohli's permission. "We'll certainly try. We will have to run that by Virat, but we will get an answer from him at some stage, I'm sure. That’s where we like to start our summer, as has been the case for a long, long time,” quipped Paine, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
"As I said, we will ask Virat and see if we can get his permission to play here – maybe even get a pink-ball Test if he's in a good mood. We will have to wait and see."
With the gigantic win against Pakistan, Australia, with a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, have now completed 31 Tests without losing in Brisbane. Paine is confident of starting a series against any team at the ground as the hosts always tend to outplay their opponents at the Gabba.
"We like to start here against anyone. Having said that, it [the venue] doesn't win games of cricket. The reason we win games of cricket at the Gabba is because we outplay our opposition," stated Paine.
Australia and Pakistan will next play a Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval, which begins on Friday.
