VIDEO | Jonny Bairstow almost pulls off Dhoni special but Mark Wood lets him down

It is often said, cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties, where small things could make massive differences. One such incident was noticed during the England-West Indies game, where Jonny Bairstow almost pulled off an MS Dhoni kind of prediction but was let down by Mark Wood.

After Evin Lewis’ early fall, the onus of getting the scoreboard ticking was on the responsible shoulders of Chris Gayle and Shai Hope. The southpaw has looked in a different zone in recent times and wreaked havoc at the top. He had a staggering run in a bilateral series against the same opponent, which pretty much meant that they knew each others’ game pretty well.

After a cautious start, Gayle was looking to cut loose and milk some quick runs to put the pressure back on England. Prior to the sixth over, Jonny Bairstow alerted the third man fielder, Mark Wood, of a catch and emulated exactly what Gayle was about to do. In fact, he even illustrated the kind of stroke Gayle was about to play and anticipated a top edge. Seconds later, Chris Woakes steamed in and induced a top edge that sailed towards Mark Wood at third man boundary, but a last second fumble splashed waters over everything. This was exactly what Bairstow predicted and had this catch been cupped, the whole scenario would have been trending on social media platforms by now.

Only time will reveal how costly this catch will turn out to be as Gayle is widely reckoned to make the opposition pay for blunders.
