The moment David Warner walked out to bat in the opening encounter against Afghanistan, the English fans started booing the Australian southpaw. Warner returned to the national side after serving a one-year ban for his involvement in the sandpaper gate scandal in a Test against South Africa.

After a batting collapse, Afghanistan did well to recover and posted a modest total of 207 inside 39 overs. Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran scored some crucial runs to help their side cross the 200-run mark. However, an interesting phase sprung the moment David Warner walked out to bat in the second innings. 

The crowd at Bristol didn’t spare any time and booed Warner citing his involvement in the sandpaper gate scandal. The opener remained unfazed by the chants and made his way into the middle. Australia got off to a good start and looked all set to chase down the target convincingly. Even in the warm-up games, the southpaw and Steve Smith faced the fire, which was quite expected. 

The duo returned to the Australian national side last month after serving a one-year ban for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal. Earlier, Australian coach Justin Langer also pleaded the fans not to boo Warner and Smith during the World Cup.
