As per the reports on Indian Express, the International Cricket Council is mulling the idea of introducing an U-19 World Cup for the girls as early as next year. The idea was discussed in last month’s ICC meeting so as to promote the women’s cricket and boost cricketers' profile across the globe.

ICC Under-19 World Cup is a huge success story since its inception, and many cricketers, including the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, Yuvraj Singh, Steve Smith, Shane Watson, and Babar Azam, have gone on to become huge names in international cricket over the years. Although it is late, the ICC is mulling the idea of hosting the Under-19 Women’s World Cup from next year.

The basic idea behind having the junior tournament for the girls is to boost women’s cricket across the globe, and the ICC hopes that girls will get the same exposure as well. “There are many countries who might find it tough to find good players, but it could be a good start. It will help them have a base for the future, which all countries lack at the moment. At least, there will be a start and a tournament that these upcoming players can look forward to,” the source said.

Even in India, after the Lodha Committee’s recommendations, the BCCI have also introduced various age-group tournaments for girls across the country - a refreshing narrative considering earlier they used to host only women’s senior tournaments.
