India Women vs New Zealand Women | Important to gain more points from the series, asserts Mithali Raj

After the Men in Blue started their New Zealand tour on a great note today, the women are going to kick off a three-match ODI series at the same venue tomorrow. The Indian eves were involved in off-field controversies a couple of months ago but with the appointment of new coach WV Raman, the side will be looking forward to a good start to the New Year in Napier tomorrow.

India is currently placed at the fifth position as far as the ICC Women’s Championship is concerned and as this will determine the qualification into the 2021 World Cup, the team will want to put up a good show against the Kiwis in the upcoming series.  

“These matches are very going to be very important for us. India are presently at number five on the points table, so it is very important from that perspective that we gain as many points from this ODI series,” Mithali Raj said at the press conference, reported The Scroll. 

India had defeated the White Ferns by a huge margin of 186 runs in the World Cup in 2017 while the Kiwi eves were also defeated in the shortest format of the game during the ICC World T20 last year by Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. The Indian captain also mentioned about these two wins against the hosts but underlined the fact that it can be a different side playing at home. 

“Beating New Zealand in the World Cup and the World T20, it definitely gives us a psychological advantage, but again, we are playing in different conditions, we are playing in their backyard, so it is important that the team acclimatize to the conditions,” the Indian skipper opined.
