World XI vs Asia XI to be played in the world’s largest cricket stadium

The new Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium, commonly known as Motera stadium is capable of holding 1.10 lakh people and will be the world’s largest cricket stadium overtaking the capacity of MCG. It is now about ICC’s approval, with its inauguration being the much-anticipated World XI vs Asia XI game.
After becoming BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly has been doing wonders, be it conducting India’s first pink-ball test to now organising a mega event at the Motera Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to get a clearance from the International Cricket Council (ICC). “There will be Asia XI vs World XI game but it will be subject to ICC’s approval,” Ganguly confirmed to the Indian Express after BCCI’s annual general body meeting held in Mumbai on Sunday.
It was on 16th January 2017 that Gujarat Cricket Association laid the foundation stone for the newly built stadium. The Old structure of the stadium was demolished and now we are having the largest stadium in Ahmedabad within 2 years time.
The budget for the project was INR 700 crores. This stadium will now replace Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to become the world’s largest cricket stadium with a capacity of accommodating 1.10 lakh of fans. MCG is having a seating capacity for just over one lakh people. Australian company Populous, which is also the architect of the MCG, are the principal architect of the Sardar Patel Stadium too.
In order to make it a grand event, the BCCI and the GCA want to bring the world’s current superstars for the opening game in March. The stadium at Motera after doubling its capacity of 54,000 is also having world-class facilities for indoor sessions and recreation of players. It is expected to have way better facilities for the fans as well as compared to other stadiums in India.
