Saqlain Mushtaq applies for Pakistan U-19 chief coach job

Saqlain Mushtaq has confirmed that he has submitted his application for the post of head coach of the Pakistan U-19 cricket team. The former spinner was also with the England support staff at the recent ICC World Cup 2019 and is presently with them for the ongoing Ashes series against Australia.

Rumors were floating around that Former Pakistan cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq was tipped to take over as head coach of the Pakistan U-19 cricket team in the coming days. The 42-year old who took 496 wickets in 49 Tests and 169 ODIs, confirmed that he has applied for the vacant post and will meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials for an interview next week. 

"I have applied and my interview is next week. I just feel that I can contribute a lot to Pakistan cricket. I have acquired a lot of coaching experience working around the world but I have worked a lot with young players at Somerset and Middlesex counties and with different academies all over the world," Mushtaq was quoted as saying by PTI sources. 

Mushtaq, whose spin twin Mushtaq Ahmed, is also currently working as a spin coach in the West Indies, had always expressed his interest to work in the Pakistan cricket set-up. He was also involved in the coaching setup with England at the recently-concluded ICC World Cup and is with the three lions team as they compete in the ongoing Ashes series against Australia.
