VIDEO | Virat Kohli saves Rishabh Pant from pulling off a Mushfiqur Rahim behind the stumps

If Adelaide gave Rishabh Pant a chance to gain many followers, then Melbourne made him a popular character for his direct sledging of Tim Paine. However, today, his graph would have taken a big turn had Virat Kohli not come to his rescue and collected the ball before it went on to hit the helmet.

Mushfiqur Rahim has had a habit of pulling off one moment after another which would leave him embarrassed and when he dived to save a ball from going to the boundary against the Windies, he surely did pull off one more. The ball went on to hit the helmet, and Windies were awarded five penalty runs for the same. Today, Kohli ensured that Pant didn’t have to face a similar situation like that.

Jasprit Bumrah was breathing fire with the ball and nailed the yorkers and bouncers at regular intervals to put the Aussies in a shell. His first ball of the 59th over kept low and landed in the full area. To confuse Pat Cummins further, he bowled a ferocious bounce on exactly the next ball of the over, which rose from the short length area.

While Cummins decided not to get a bat on it and ducked under it to help himself, Pant also failed to collect it despite giving a big jump. The ball just touched his gloves and slowed down, but that would have proved dangerous as it was well on course to hit Pant’s helmet that he had kept behind him. However, Kohli sensed that instantly and ran towards it to collect the ball before throwing it to Pant again.
