WATCH | Tamim Iqbal runs himself out in the most inexplicable way

Bangladesh were trotting along nicely in their first innings against Sri Lanka before a moment of madness from Tamim Iqbal. Despite the wicketkeeper appealing for a caught behind in the 36th over, Tamim decided to go for a run leaving Niroshan Dickwella the easy task of taking the bails off.

Chasing Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 494, Bangladesh made a brilliant start to their innings with Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar forming an 118-run partnership for the opening wicket. It could have been so much more, though.

In the 36th over, Lakshan Sandakan fired a ball down the leg side and Tamim Iqbal was beaten in his attempt to turn it around the corner. Niroshan Dickwella collected the ball cleanly and made a loud appeal for caught behind. While the wicketkeeper was busy appealing Tamim somehow forgot that the ball was in the wicketkeeper’s gloves and attempted to sneak a single.

As he ran down the pitch, Dickwella took the bails off much to his surprise and everyone else, and that's how Bangladesh lost their first wicket.

Inzamam-ul-Haq has some company now finally!
