Virat Kohli quickest ODI captain to 1,000 runs

Virat Kohli has become the quickest to reach 1,000 One-Day International runs as captain on Sunday, surpassing his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate AB de Villers. Kohli reached the milestone in 17 innings, one less than South African de Villiers.

The duo are followed by Kiwi Kane Williamson (20), Englishman Alastair Cook (21) and Sourav Ganguly (22).

Kohli has earned the moniker ‘chase-master’ owing to his ability to set up big chases with impressive consistency. Although, on Sunday, India fell short of the 322 target by just six runs despite the skipper’s 63-ball 55 with eight boundaries in the third ODI against England at the Eden Gardens.

India had, however, sealed the three-match series with a game to spare.

Kohli also became the seventh Indian to score more than1000 runs as captain after MS Dhoni (6,633 runs as captain), Md Azharuddin (5,239), Sourav Ganguly (5,082), Rahul Dravid (2,658), Sachin Tendulkar (2,454) and Kapil Dev (1,564).
