Sourav Ganguly has distanced himself from the vacant BCCI president post, saying he is not eligible. The 44-year-old also said that the Cricket Association of Bengal has no option but to implement Lodha Committee’s recommendations after the Supreme Court removed Anurag Thakur as BCCI president.

Media reports suggested that Ganguly, the current CAB president, is front-runner to succeed Thakur at the helm of Indian cricket.

“My name is coming up unnecessarily. I don’t qualify. I have just completed one year (as the CAB president) and have got two more years left. I am not in the running (for the BCCI president’s post),” former India captain Ganguly told PTI news agency.

The Supreme Court on Monday (Jan 2) removed Thakur and Ajay Shirke as president and secretary respectively of the BCCI, and also announced that a committee of administrators will be appointed on Jan 19 to oversee the operations of the BCCI.

The SC’s ruling came after BCCI’s continuous reluctance and inability to implement the recommendations made by the Lodha panel after six months as a lot of member associations opposed it.

“We are having an (CAB) office-bearers’ meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) where we will decide on the future,” Ganguly said.
