Sadeera Samarwickrama will be missing the second day’s action in the ongoing Test between India and Sri Lanka in Delhi after getting hit in the head yesterday. He was hit on the helmet grill when Murali Vijay attempted a sweep shot and on-field umpire Nigel Llong had sent him back to the pavilion.

Nothing is going Sri Lanka's way in Delhi, after India already piled a big total with the help of Murali Vijay’s century and Virat Kohli’s double hundred. While the Sri Lankan fielders were facing trouble controlling the run-flow of India’s batting order on Day 1, the visitors were dealt another blow as Samarawickrama was ruled out of play for Day 2.

Sri Lankan team manager Asanka Gurusinha revealed that the opener was advised to rest after the injury in 30th over.

"Sadeera is not taking any part at all in today's proceedings. He has got mild concussion. There's a protocol in place when a player gets hit on the head and we are following that. We will take a call after taking him to the doctors at close of play," Gurusinha told Cricbuzz.

After the incident, he was immediately taken off the field and sent to the hospital for the CT scans.

Samarawickrama, who was playing his fourth Test of his career, was fielding at short leg when he was hit. He was also hit during the second Test in Nagpur and was cleared to play after scans revealed no major injury to his ribs.
