Anjum Chopra becomes first Indian woman to become honorary MCC life member

Former Indian women's cricket captain Anjum Chopra has been honored with a lifetime membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), alongside Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag. The Padma Shri winner has expressed her delight to be included in a list which contains some of cricket's biggest legends.

"It's been an honour. Two months ago, I got a mail from the Lord's office asking me whether I would like to accept the honorary life membership of MCC. After I replied, they sent me an acceptance letter. Two days ago, when Zaheer's name came up as the new MCC life member, I saw the list and found my name there," Anjum told PTI.

The 39-year-old, who made her Test debut back in 1995, has featured in 12 Tests, 127 ODIs, and 18 T20Is for the nation. She was also the first Indian women's cricketer to score an ODI century, and the first captain to win a Test series abroad, when India defeated South Africa under her leadership in 2002.

Anjum, who now works as a commentator on various networks, has expressed her delight to be associated with a club which also houses some of the biggest names in Indian cricket's history.

"It feels good when you see the names of the Indian cricket's legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath, who have been bestowed with the honour of life membership of MCC," she added.
