PCB seek to censure Thakur for his “Pakistan sponsors terrorism” comment

“Priority is to expose Pakistan as a country which sponsors terrorism. No question of playing cricket with such a nation,” Thakur, who is also a MP of India’s ruling BJP party, had said after the Uri attack.

The BCCI had subsequently also requested the ICC not to slot the Asian neighbours in the same half in preliminary stages of global competitions.

“Pakistan's stance is simple... first Anurag Thakur must clarify at the ICC meeting whether he gives statements as a politician of the ruling party in India or as president of the BCCI since the ICC constitution discourages politics in cricket,” a PCB source told PTI news agency.

The source also said that the PCB will be pushing the ICC to compensate them with funds for India’s refusal to play them in a bilateral series since 2007.

Reportedly, the PCB delegation comprising Najam Sethi, who heads the PCB's executive committee, and chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed will also be asking about the proposed 'big three' formula, as cricket boards other than the BCCI, Cricket Australia and England will be left penniless if implemented.

“Pakistan will be pushing for a review of the 'big three' governance formula under which the head of corporate costs India take home nearly 32 percent of the earnings followed by England and Australia with 18 and 12 per cent, which leaves nothing for other boards," the source said.

The source claimed that it was a wrong assumption that ICC chief Shashank Manohar wanted the 'big three' governance system to be scrapped. “He has just talked about some changes, not scrapping it,"," said the source.
