England to host Windies in first day-night Test at home

England will play their first day-night Test at home next year. It will be the opening Test match against the West Indies at Edgbaston between Aug 17 and 21. “We're excited by the prospect of staging our first ever day-night Test match,” ECB chief executive Tom Harrison said in a statement.

“It's a great opportunity to attract more fans to the game and see how staging Test cricket in the afternoon and evening fits with working patterns and modern lifestyles, whilst maintaining the deep tradition of Test match cricket,” he added.

The only Test to be played with a pink ball and under lights was between Australia and New Zealand in Adelaide last November. The second is to take place this month between Pakistan and the West Indies in the UAE, as cricket boards globally are trying to increase spectator attendance at Test matches.

Warwickshire country trialed with the pink ball in a second XI game in August that was regarded a success, and the club, reportedly, has agreed to experiment it in first-class matches next summer.
