Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has revealed a bizarre ritual of his former opening partner Gautam Gambhir whenever the duo travelled for an overseas series. While admitting to having superstitions of his own, Viru said that Gambhir would indulge himself in “pooja paath” before each match.

The Virender Sehwag – Gautam Gambhir combination was one of the finest opening pairs India has had over the years. With their contrasting styles complimenting each other and the left-right troubling bowlers, they played a huge part in India's success for the better part of the 2000s.

At the 1st Test between India and England in Rajkot, commentator Virender Sehwag opened up on several hilarious incidents during his career. Commentating alongside Kapil Dev and Akash Chopra in the box, the explosive batsman lifted the lid over some of the superstitions which Gautam Gambhir had.

Viru said that the Gambhir would make him eat the same food for days on an overseas series after he had scored in 90s after eating that food. “Main pakhgaya (I got tired of eating the same dinner),” revealed Sehwag.

He also added that the left-hander is a very religious person who indulges himself in ‘pooja-paath’(rituals and worshiping) before every match.

Viru himself also admitted to having resorted to several superstitions in order to get his game going.

Even Sachin Tendulkar was also known to be superstitious, putting on his left pad first before he geared up to bat, while Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid have played their entire Test career with the same Test cap they had received on their debut.
